About Grammar and Writing

Stephen Hake began writing for John Saxon in 1984, and is the lead author for the third through eighth grade textbooks. He continues to write and update the Saxon® Math programs now published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Long believing that students would benefit from a language arts program designed with the Saxon® Math model of incremental development and continual review, Stephen commissioned a team of authors to create Grammar and Writing.

Grammar and Writing is a comprehensive language arts program that covers English grammar, writing, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary development. Imbedded in the examples and exercises is content from other subject areas, so that students learn valuable knowledge while developing their English language skills.

The program currently spans grades 5-8. However, strong fourth grade students can benefit from Grammar and Writing 5, and high school students will benefit from Grammar and Writing 8, thoroughly covering the skills needed for college-board exams.

During development, Hake Publishing made Grammar and Writing available to the homeschool market. Early users of the program have confirmed that the Saxon® style of instruction works as effectively in language arts as in math. The results and feedback have been very positive!

Other links along the left margin will provide a look into the program and how to acquire the program.
